(Nasdaq:OSTK), 47 percent of the online shopping site's customers plan to purchase a gift for Father's Day online this year, compared to 37 percent planning their purchase in a brick and mortar store. Overall, 70 percent of customers plan to purchase a gift for the holiday, online or otherwise.

Of the respondents that were fathers, 35 percent hoped to receive a practical gift for the holiday, while 32 percent wanted a more meaningful gift. The "DIY Dad" who enjoys tinkering and fixing things around the house made up 32 percent of the paternal respondents, while 23 percent identify more as a "Techie Dad," interested in the latest electronic and technological gadgets.

When the fathers were asked to rank their preferred gifts, tools led the way with 34 percent of the votes, followed by outdoor cooking options, books, tablets, and smartphones.
