Metabolix to Present Sustainability Innovations in Personal Care Products and Packaging at HBA Global 2015

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 4, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Metabolix, Inc. (Nasdaq:MBLX), an advanced biomaterials company focused on sustainable solutions for the plastics industry, today announced it will be participating in two panel presentations during the HBA Global 2015 conference, a leading event highlighting innovations in the health and beauty sectors. During the panel sessions, Metabolix will present insights into how its PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate polymers) biopolymer materials can enhance sustainability and performance in cosmetic and personal care ingredients and packaging applications. HBA Global is being held June 9-11 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Metabolix is developing biobased PHA biopolymers that are biodegradeable in soil, fresh water, and marine environments. In addition, Metabolix's PHA enhances the property performance of polylactic acid (PLA), a leading biopolymer, including adding strength, toughness, and "softness" in certain packaging applications.

Description: During this panel discussion on innovations in environmentally-friendly ingredients and natural formulation alternatives, John Licata will present relevant developments at Metabolix including its Mirel® PHA biopolymers and their use as exfoliants. This discussion is timely, as several states look to restrict the use of plastic microbeads in personal care products due to plastic accumulation in marine environments. Mr. Licata will address:

  • Alternative materials and natural products that are being explored as replacements for petroleum-based plastic microbeads and other cosmetic products.
  • How biobased PHA materials that biodegrade rapidly in marine environments also meet the performance requirements for a range of cosmetic and personal products.
