On Wednesday, the White House lifted the ban on cameras, photo and social media during public tours via an Instagram post made by Michelle Obama.

For the first time in 40 years, guests will be permitted to take pictures of the White House tour.

"Effective today, guests are now welcome to take photos throughout the White House tour route and keep those memories for a lifetime," the White House said in a statement that also encouraged visitors to share their photos using the hashtag #WhiteHouseTour.

Here are some of the first #WhiteHouseTour photos to hit social media.

Photos may have gotten the White House green light but video cameras, flash photography and livestreaming are still not permitted while on the tour.
