Columbia Pipeline Group executives rang the opening bell Wednesday, marking the start of trading at the New York Stock Exchange.
The Houston-based company, which owns and operates natural gas pipelines across the country, celebrated its spinoff from Merrillville, Indiana, firm NiSource, according to the Intercontinental Exchange.
The move was intended to make both companies more independent, highly focused entities, according to a statement from NiSource last month.
