A strategy that's beaten the market for 3 years

Barclays' equity strategy team believes it's found a simple strategy to beat the market.

Just buy the S&P 500 stocks that have announced stock buybacks in previous years, but have yet to do so this year.

If investors bought stocks with a repurchase history at mid-year, they would have topped the S&P 500 by 1 percentage points, 4 percentage points and 5 percentage points respectively each of the last three years, according to Barclays.

Not bad considering the trouble that hedge funds had beating the market in recent years despite their highly sophisticated quantitative methods.
