In this latest installment of CNBC's summer reading series, "Shark Tank" star Robert Herjavec offers up his summer reading picks. Sure, there are some business books in there as you might expect, but who knew he was an Ultimate Fighting fan? Between that and his turn on "Dancing With the Stars," there's more to this "Shark" than ferocious deals!
I wish I had more time to sit down with a good book and enjoy the experience. To be honest, the second I crack a book open, I tend to feel guilty. There is no shortage of things to do, between managing the growth of Herjavec Group's global managed services practice to supporting the team at "Shark Tank," so my time dedicated to reading is limited.
That said, the time you'll most often catch me reading is when I'm traveling. Here are the four books I've had in my brief case so far this summer. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did…
When to Rob a Bank: ...And 131 More Warped Suggestions and Well-Intended Rants
By Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner
I loved "Freakonomics" and this book, a collection of the authors' favorite blog posts, is sensational. A quick read that you can always come back to, this book is perfect for the business traveler or vacationer who needs a good laugh and some thought-provoking facts!
My Fight/Your Fight
By Ronda Rousey
I'm a huge Ultimate Fighting Championship fan and when I came across UFC fighter Ronda Rousey's book, I couldn't put it down. She shares her struggles, from being a young Judo athlete to her trials at the Olympics and now, how she's taken over the world as a UFC champion. She's highly inspirational, funny and honest. A great read. I would highly recommend it.
The Art Of War
By Sun Tzu
I always come back to this book for inspiration. It's one of my favorite strategy and leadership reads and I find I pull something new out of it each and every time. I definitely recommend revisiting it this summer!
Team of Teams
By General Stanley McChrystal with Tantum Collins, David Silverman and Chris Fussell
I have a dynamic team at Herjavec Group. We've successfully integrated companies via acquisition, we have technical and sales expertise and we are in one of the hottest markets worldwide — cybersecurity. It's important we stay motivated and laser-focused on our growth plan. This book reinforced the power of a task force and the agility, nimbleness and speed that can be achieved when you task the right group of people with solving the right problem.
