FREMONT, Calif., Aug. 12, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Digital Power Corporation (NYSE MKT:DPW) today announced financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2015.
Digital Power's revenues for the second quarter ended June 30, 2015 were $2,151,000, a decrease of 19% from revenues of $2,642,000 for the same quarter ended June 30, 2014, resulting mainly from a decreased level of orders and shipments of commercial products and the timing of shipments of military products of our domestic operation. Net loss for the quarter ended on June 30, 2015 was $271,000, compared to net income of $149,000 for the quarter ended June 30, 2014 resulting mainly from reduced sales levels and impairments of the Company's investment in Telkoor in 2015 but not in 2014. Gross margin in the second quarter ended June 30, 2015 was 37% compared to 41% in the second quarter ended June 30, 2014. The decline was primarily the result of the effect of lower revenues on fixed manufacturing costs, an inventory write down of $33,000 in the second quarter of 2015 and not in the second quarter of 2014, and to a lesser extent changes in the product mix. Operating expenses were slightly higher (less than 2%) in the quarter ended June 30, 2015 compared to the quarter ended June 30, 2014 reflecting significantly higher stock option expenses offset by lower sales personnel costs.
Commenting on the results, President and CEO, Amos Kohn, stated: "For the second quarter ended June 30, 2015, our net loss of $271,000 included $90,000 of stock option expenses, $24,000 of intellectual property amortization expenses and $56,000 for the impairment of our Telkoor investment. Excluding these non-cash related expenses, our non-GAAP net loss was $101,000 for the second quarter of 2015. For the second quarter ended June 30, 2014, our net profit was $149,000 and excluding stock option expenses of $59,000 and intellectual property amortization expenses of $24,000 our non-GAAP net income was $232,000. Although we continue to realize more profitable defense related shipments from our European operations in the current fiscal year as compared to the last, our domestic commercial product portfolio continues to lag behind expectations in terms of orders and shipments. Our efforts to further develop our product line offerings and geographical sales coverage are still in process with the hope that improvements in our revenue realization rate will follow in future quarters. In order to increase the marketing of our products and address the decline in domestic orders, we hired two senior salesmen in July, 2015 as part of our growth plan."
Mr. Kohn continued, "We continue to pursue our strategic plan of developing complete customized power solutions and enhancing our standard product portfolio with innovative, high density and efficient power supplies at ever increasing power levels. The focus on a complete solution for power applications is well received by our major telecom, medical, military and industrial customers."
