U.S. franchise job gains for August came in at 22,800, well-below the 33,300 gains for July and the 12 month average of 27,000 new positions per month, ADP said Wednesday.
"However, the franchise employment growth rate was still above that of the overall labor market," said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and head of the ADP Research Institute.
Last month, professional services franchise jobs led the way, gaining 1 percent month-over-month. Restaurants, however, added the most jobs on an absolute basis with 9,340 and have gained nearly 10 percent year over year, ADP said.
The auto parts and dealers segment also added 7,260 jobs in July, a 0.5 percent monthly growth rate.
Lagging were jobs in education, which contracted 0.6 percent month over month and have shrunk 0.8 percent year over year.
