After-hours buzz: Hewlett-Packard, Starz, Sirona & more

Check out the companies making headlines after the bell Tuesday:

United Natural Foods shares rose about 3 percent after the natural and organic foods distributor reported fourth-quarter and full-year results.

Dental supply and equipment maker Dentsply International said it would acquire Sirona Dental Systems for $5.5 billion. Shares of both companies rose after being halted with Sirona climbing about 3 percent and Dentsply gaining about 1 after the announcement.

Microsoft shares were up modestly after the tech giant said it would increase its quarterly dividend by 16 percent to 36 cents a share.

Spinoff Hewlett-Packard Enterprises expects to cut between 25,000 and 30,000 jobs as a part of a cost-saving plan, Hewlett-Packard said in a press release. Shares were down about 1 percent in after-hours trading.

Theater operator AMC Entertainment's shares rose as much as 1 percent in the wake of a Bloomberg report that said it was in talks to buy Starz, a media and entertainment company. Starz was up more than 7 percent after hours.

FedEx will increase its shipping rates for its ground, freight and express services by an average of 4.9 percent, effective Jan. 4, 2016. The stock fell about 1 percent after the bell. It is slated to report quarterly earnings before the bell on Wednesday.
