CHICAGO, Sept. 16, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tutoring Chicago, formerly Cabrini Green Tutoring Program, will host a 50th anniversary celebration on Thursday, September 17th, from 6-9pm at the Montgomery Club in Chicago (see registration link below). Tutoring Chicago, a one-to-one tutoring program for underprivileged Chicago youth, provides weekly tutoring to approximately 500 students in grades 1-6 free of charge with the help of over 500 dedicated volunteer tutors.
The anniversary event, hosted by Tutoring Chicago, will be emceed by Emmy award-winning journalist and WGN news anchor, Micah Materre, and will feature:
- A cocktail hour with entertainment provided by the Jesse White Tumblers;
- A brief presentation celebrating the program’s past, present and future including words from a former student along with Tutoring Chicago’s longest standing tutor of over 40 years;
- Dinner and an open bar;
- Raffles and prizes;
- Music from the Fred Simon Trio.
Over 200 guests are expected to attend the event, including past and present tutors, students, staff, and friends of the program.
“The most fitting way to celebrate Tutoring Chicago’s rich history is to bring together past and present faces of the program to reminisce on where we’ve been and look ahead to where we’re going,” said Erin McPartlin, Tutoring Chicago’s Executive Director. “This is an incredible milestone for the program. We know there are many more ahead as we continue to grow our footprint and cater to even more of Chicago’s children in need.”

Founded in 1965 as Montgomery Ward Tutoring Program, Tutoring Chicago is a one-to-one tutoring program for underprivileged Chicago youth in grades 1-6.
