Breton Veterinary Hospital's Founding Veterinarian Celebrates 25th Anniversary

LEONARDTOWN, Md., Sept. 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- St. Mary's County welcomes a new milestone as Dr. Lynn Fenwick of Breton Veterinary Hospital celebrates 25 years of devoted service to the surrounding communities of St. Mary's County including Leonardtown, California, Hollywood, Callaway and Lexington Park.

Dr. Lynn Fenwick knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian at the young age of nine. Likely influenced by the stimulating conversations with her father, Dr. John Fenwick, also of Leonardtown, Maryland; Lynn followed her strong interests in providing healing for animals rather than people by opening her own Veterinary Practice, in August of 1990, named for her treasured Cocker Spaniel, "Breton."

Breton Veterinary Hospital opened on Fenwick Street in Leonardtown, but moved in 2001 to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility, to support the Hospital's growth. Her vision went beyond the office conveniences, like a "cat gazebo area" that is not only fun and comforting, but succeeds in keeping the feline patients separate from our canine patients. Along with a larger dog kennel which includes a big outdoor play yard.

"The AAHA Standard of Veterinary Care has been a central focus in our community service to pet owners in St. Mary's County. Our professional veterinary staff continues to strive in providing continuous continuity of care for our beloved animal patients. We also invest in community education regarding responsible care, vaccinations and dental health as a part of the quality of life goals for dogs, cats, and even pocket pets if they are not too exotic," stated Dr. Fenwick recently.

Dr. Fenwick graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and the Virginia/Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. She then returned to the growing county of St. Mary's to serve the community where her family has lived for several generations. She and her staff diligently work to keep their community armed and informed about pet dangers and preventative care.

"Because of the abundance of mosquitoes and ticks that exist in this part of the country, I always warn concerned pet owners to keep up with pet examinations, vaccinations, and health care to catch small issues before they become major problems," she said. "The cost of preventative care is much less, even in routine dental care than it will be if serious problems develop over time."
