Best value for money countries for football fans

As die-hard soccer fans who travel the length and breadth of their countries to follow their teams know, support does not come cheap. You need to sometimes take planes and trains as well as automobiles to get to the stadium, and then there's the food and the obligatory pint.

A new analysis from Berlin-based travel search website GoEuro and app Onefootball shows which country offers the best value for the money spent to watch a match. The price of a ticket is obviously a crucial factor but so is the overall quality of the league.

So which countries offer soccer that is easy on the eye and light on the wallet? Here's the top 10, represented by the largest stadiums where clubs from the highest division play week in week out:

10. Brazil

The average price to watch a top division soccer game in Brazil? $28.50.

Maracanã hosted the largest audience in the history of soccer, about 200,000 people, when Brazil played Paraguay for a World Cup slot in 1969.

The capacity has since been reduced. Clubs Flamengo and Fluminense share the 74,738-seat stadium as their home ground now.

9. Turkey

A ticket to watch a top-flight soccer game in Turkey costs a somewhat modest $14.19.

The largest stadium used by a club is the Turk Telekom Arena, which has a capacity of 52,650. The stadium's record attendance of 52,044 was made in 2013 when home team Galatasaray played against Real Madrid, the richest football club in the world.

8. Italy

It costs about $76.98 per person to watch a game in Italy.

Commonly known as San Siro, The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is a soccer stadium located in the province of Milan shared by bitter rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan.

With a capacity of 80,018, the stadium is set to host the 2016 UEFA Champions League Final.

7. Belgium

The average ticket price to watch a soccer game in Belgium is $30.72.

Jan Breydel Stadium is home to top-flight clubs, Club Brugge and Cercle Brugge.

The stadium has a capacity of 29,902 and was built with the objective of providing both Brugges clubs with a shared home to replace their separate grounds. The King Baudouin Stadium has a larger capacity but is used mainly by the Belgian national soccer side.

A ticket to watch a soccer match in France costs around $41.28.

With a capacity of 67,000, Stade Vélodrome served as a venue for the FIFA World Cup in 1998.

It has been home to Olympique de Marseille club of Ligue 1 since it opened in 1937.

5. Argentina

Fans have to pay on average $30.61 per ticket to watch a match in Argentina's top division.

Estadio Antonio Vespucio Libertim, also known as River Plate Stadium or simply El Monumental, has a seating capacity of 61,688 and is the home ground of River Plate FC.

The stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.

4. England

Fans have to pay on average a staggering $82.60 to watch a Premier League game.

Old Trafford is the second-largest football stadium in the United Kingdom. Its home team, Manchester United, have won 20 league titles — the most of any English club.

The stadium is more than a century old and has a seating capacity of 75,663.

The Wembley stadium in London accommodates more fans but is used primarily for cup games and home matches involving the England national team.

3. Portugal

A ticket to watch a game in Portugal costs an average of $36.33.

Located in Lisbon, Portugal, Estádio da Luz is a multipurpose stadium that hosts the home matches of Benfica.

The stadium has a capacity of 65,200.

2. Spain

An average ticket to see a game in Spain costs $78.09.

Camp Nou has been home to the famous Barcelona team since 1957 and is the largest football stadium in Spain.

Camp Nou, which means "new field" in Catalan, has a seating capacity of 98,787.

1. Germany

Watching a soccer game in Germany is the most value for money, with a ticket costing an average of $35.36.

Also known as Westfalenstadion, Signal Iduna Park has a capacity of 80,667.

It is the home stadium of Borussia Dortmund, one of Bundesliga's top clubs.
