Scientology Public Information Center Marks Its 5,000 Visitor Milestone

CLEARWATER, Fla., Oct. 05, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On October 1st, the Manager of the Scientology Information Center, Amber Skjelset, announced that the Center surpassed its first milestone since its ribbon cutting ceremony on July 11th, 2015. As of this past week, the number of the Center’s guests, who come from all over the world, surpassed the 5,000 mark.

“The center is proud to have hosted visitors from diverse parts of the U.S. and Tampa Bay area as well as visitors from countries including Argentina, Bali, Colombia, Cuba, Germany, England, France, Iran, Nicaragua, Norway, Peru, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Slovakia, Russia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Wales. We can accommodate most in their native tongues with AV displays in 17 languages”, said Amber Skjelset, the Center’s Manager.

A long-term Clearwater resident stated after her visit, “It is a very good thing you have opened this center. I have always had questions about Scientology and now it’s easy to find out.” She enjoyed looking around, watching videos clips and learning about Scientology and its humanitarian programs.

Some of the information in the center covers basic Scientology tenets, what Scientologists believe, short interviews with Scientologists, the Parts of Man, an Introduction to Dianetics, and a brief overview of the life of Scientology’s founder, Mr. L. Ron Hubbard.

The center offers tours to the broad public and civic leaders; holds small events and receptions for various community groups; and opens up the use of its conference room to social, civic and non-profit groups.

The Scientology Information Center, housed in the Historic Clearwater Building, is one of seven distinct facilities the Church of Scientology opened for community use in July of this year. The other six facilities feature Scientology-affiliated global humanitarian initiatives, offering programs for drug and human rights education, mental health advocacy, criminal rehabilitation and more.

The completion of these buildings is the latest phase in the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization’s expansion. It follows the November 2013 dedication of the Flag Building, the Church’s international spiritual headquarters; the opening of the historic Coachman Building in 2014, with its permanent exhibit to Clearwater’s history on the first floor; the full-restoration and rededication of the landmark Fort Harrison, connected with the Flag Building by a street bridge spanning Fort Harrison Avenue; and the opening of the Oak Cove Religious Retreat in 2008.

Upcoming events are:

October 14th – Human Rights, Anti-Bullying Seminar/Event
October 17th – Chef/Restaurateur Reception
November 4th – Welcoming Reception for members of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Clearwater
