Chart: Dow average breaking out?

Following sharp losses in the past two months, U.S. stocks appear to be breaking out based on a short-term measure followed by chart analysts: the 50-day moving average.

The Dow Jones industrial average was the most notable breakout above this measure, rallying 5 percent in five days.
