Early morning commuters in Burke County, North Carolina, saw heavy delays on Thursday after a truck carrying 3,100 pounds of live chickens crashed on a local highway.

The driver of tractor-trailer lost control of the vehicle while driving down a curvy roadway and rolled into a ditch around 6 a.m., a trooper with Highway Patrol told CNBC.

The roadway has since been cleared of all poultry, but not before causing about four hours of delays for local commuters.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to nearby Grace Hospital with minor injuries.
