Hillary emails? Just another BS scandal

I've taken to these pages and to the airwaves of national television to assure you that at the end of the day this faux email scandal involving Hillary Clinton is nothing but a bunch of trumped up Republican charges being egged on by the media.

And of course, thanks to the inability of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to follow the good advice that it's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt, it turns out that I was 100 percent right. If that wasn't enough, the Republicans came along and gilded the lily for us when Rep. Richard Hanna confirmed McCarthy's remarks. (Both made comments in media interviews that suggested the Benghazi probe may have been intended from the start to target Hillary Clinton.)

"'Hillary Clinton's emails' may soon, mercifully, end up in the ditch with all the other b*%$#!^& Clinton scandals the Republican and mainstream media's scandal complex has made up over the years." -James Carville

Now I know what you're thinking: Perhaps Providence herself bestowed the powers of prophecy on some young Cajun boy deep in the swamps of rural Louisiana many years ago. I wish I could tell you that was true. In fact, it's a lot simpler than that: If insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome, then prophecy is simply remembering that plenty of folks are insane and, therefore, predictable. And, my goodness, if Congressional Republicans haven't proven themselves to be the craziest and most predictable bunch of kooks you've ever seen. Time and time again, dating back to the 1990s, they have tried to bring Hillary Clinton down with phony, trumped-up scandals. And time and time again, they've failed. Because at the end of the day, the goodhearted American people are just a whole lot smarter than Congressional Republicans are willing to believe.

So here we are. At long last, it seems that "Hillary Clinton's emails" may soon, mercifully, end up in the ditch with all the other b*%$#!^& Clinton scandals the Republican and mainstream media's scandal complex has made up over the years.

Now, many of you believe that based on Hillary's superb performance in the Las Vegas debate and the utter collapse of this stupid email scandal that we should be feeling pretty good right about now.

People, please, don't you know exactly what's going to happen? If not, let this cynic spell it out for you.

Now that they've ridden the email thing into the cold, hard ground, the Republicans and the media will merely invent another scandal out of whole cloth. It'll get kicked up into a grade-A you-know-what storm, there'll be wall-to-wall speculation on cable news, and I'll be forced to go out and assure you that there's nothing to it except smoke and mirrors. It's the same garbage you've been dealing with for the last 22 years. This cycle will continue to repeat itself over and over again. That's just not going to change.

As far as her debate performance was concerned, I was not surprised. She's a brilliant woman. She's thoroughly knowledgeable on issues and, in my opinion, is surrounded by an excellent campaign. That's never been the problem. The problem is that, right now, waiting in the wings, the right-wing peanut gallery is cooking up the next big lie. And the media is ready and waiting to drum it up to monumental proportions.

But here's the good news: We'll be ready. I'm not going anywhere. My friends at Correct The Record, an organization that works relentlessly to knock this stuff down, are on high alert and are fully prepared to deal with whatever future fictions they throw our way.

Just don't allow yourself to get too high on the horse yet. We've got the best candidate by a mile, but we have a long way to go.
