Los Angeles, CA, Oct. 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Although there are encyclopedias and biographical dictionaries of contemporary British film and theatre actors, most lack the intimacy of face-to-face interviews. Typically drawn from secondary sources, such collections of interviews often repeat tired anecdotes about an actor's film or stage roles, with very few fresh insights or the conversational tone of a face-to-face discussion.
Great Britons of Stage and Screen: In Conversation, Barbara Roisman Cooper's new book, features interviews with some of the leading actors of the last fifty years. She personally conducted conversations with 22 performers of theatre, film, and television. Held in intimate surroundings--including the actors' homes, private clubs, and theatre dressing rooms between performances--these interviews provide readers with a rounded understanding of the creative process and the dedication required to develop a performance.
The Los Angeles-based Roisman Cooper traveled to the UK more than 20 times to conduct her interviews, including visits to the actors' homes in Barnes,
Denham, and Little Humby, as well as interviews in the Los Angeles area.
With many well-known Oscar, Tony, Olivier, and BAFTA winners as interview subjects, each discussion is preceded by a short introduction and followed by the performer's most significant stage and screen credits.
Among the actors who shared their stories in Great Britons are: Dame Joan Collins, Stephen Fry, Jeremy Irons, Sir Derek Jacobi, Sir Ben Kingsley, Dame Angela Lansbury, Sir John Mills, Alfred Molina, Lynn Redgrave, Jean Simmons, Michael York, and more.
Designed as a resource for those studying or writing about the worlds of theatre and film in general--and the art and craft of acting, specifically--Great Britons of Stage and Screen will also appeal to the many fans of the artists who have entertained audiences for decades.
Roisman Cooper is a professional writer with more than fifty credits in various periodicals, including The Baker Street Journal and British Heritage. She is the coauthor of two previous books: Straight from the Horse's Mouth, with Ronald Neame; and Anna Lee: A Life on General Hospital and in Film, with Anna Lee.
Great Britons of Stage and Screen: In Conversation will be published by Rowman & Littlefield in October 2015. 405 pages.
