Ameristar Kansas City to Honor United States Veterans and Service Personnel With Complimentary Meals on Veterans Day

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City will honor veterans and active duty military personnel by offering complimentary lunch or dinner at its award-winning Horizons Buffet 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11*.

Ameristar Kansas City will also sell individually wrapped, made-from-scratch, hand-decorated snowman cookies to raise money for Operation Homefront this holiday season. Beginning on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, through Christmas Day, holiday cookies will be available for sale for $2 each in Big Tony's Pizza, Horizons Buffet, Delilux (the casino deli), Merk & Tyler (the Ameristar gift shop) and at the Falcon Bakery counter.

"My Stepdad John is a veteran," explains Executive Pastry Chef Victoria Swanson, whose idea it was to sell the decorated cookies. "John, who starts growing his white beard starting in June, becomes Santa in order to spread holiday cheer. John, 'Santa', will be spotted in our restaurants often this season – so together, we'll be making a difference to raise money for a charity that helps families not only during the holidays, but throughout the year."

Although a national charity, Operation Homefront's Kansas City office provides emergency financial assistance and holiday meals to hundreds of veterans, wounded warriors and their families in the local metro area.

*A veteran's card or valid military ID should be presented to the buffet cashier to qualify for the complimentary meal; one per person. Complimentary meal valid for veterans or active duty military personnel only; companion meals at full price. Not valid with any other offers; alcohol not included.
