LONDON, Nov. 03, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Wall Street Journal today launched WSJ City, a mobile news app for iPhone targeting readers in London’s financial and business community. WSJ City is available for free at launch and will subsequently be available exclusively for subscribers of The Wall Street Journal and Financial News.
WSJ City is designed for mobile use and is curated by a dedicated team of London-based writers and editors to keep City professionals up to date throughout the day with news about the deals and people driving the markets.
The app will provide readers with a snapshot of top stories at any given moment, with journalism designed for a mobile experience - easy to skim, read and share. The WSJ City team will create original stories while also sourcing content from other Dow Jones publications including the Wall Street Journal, Financial News, MarketWatch and Barron’s.
“Our readers need up-to-the-minute news, commentary and analysis on what’s happening in the financial world and London’s place in it. They demand coverage that is original and exclusive - content that keeps them better informed than their competitors,” said Gerard Baker, Editor-in-Chief of The Wall Street Journal. “This is our first app targeting a specific financial centre, taking advantage of Financial News and The Wall Street Journal’s deep reporting of the City and global markets.”
WSJ City features include:
- News updated from 6 am to 9 pm on the biggest deals, market moves and the most significant people stories in the City.
- Live data including major stock markets, currencies, commodities and bonds.
- Premium business news from The Wall Street Journal, Financial News, Barron’s and MarketWatch.
- Alerts on major breaking news affecting the City.
“WSJ City focuses on the needs of our customers, making sure they never miss out on the people, markets and deal stories that matter to their day,” said Katie Vanneck-Smith, Chief Customer Officer of Dow Jones.
The WSJ City App is available on a free trial now from the App Store for iPhone.
The launch of WSJ City forms part of a wider effort to expand the Journal’s global presence. It follows the September debut of an expanded print and digital edition in Europe - as well as a new subscription partnership with the Times of London and Sunday Times. The Journal has completed a month-long series of events in London, including a major sampling campaign, which saw one million copies of the newspaper distributed at key travel hubs across the City.
The WSJ City app joins the Journal’s recently enhanced suite of digital products, including the re-designed WSJ.com and What’s News, a U.S. app delivering the 10 most important business stories, updated throughout the day.
