Varonis DatAnywhere Adds Version Control, Mapped Stubs

NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Varonis Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:VRNS), the leading provider of software solutions for unstructured, human-generated enterprise data, today announced several important updates to its secure enterprise file sync and share solution, DatAnywhere.

Varonis DatAnywhere extends the usability of corporate file-sharing infrastructure to enable traditional file servers and NAS devices to behave like a cloud-based service, and is available for Windows, Mac OS X, iOS and Android clients. Varonis supports data wherever people choose to store it. Many organizations see the benefits of enabling their users to share files from anywhere on any device without moving large amounts of valuable and often sensitive data. The beta release of DatAnywhere 2.8 continues to raise the bar for this secure, efficient alternative approach to cloud-based products.

The new features:

  • DatAnywhere Version Control
DatAnywhere now supports file version control. This includes creating new versions of files when they are modified or uploaded by DatAnywhere users. Previous file versions can be downloaded and synced, ensuring important data is never irretrievably lost.
  • Mapped Drive Stubs
Administrators can now configure DatAnywhere Windows clients to sync stub files and folders that look and behave like the mapped drives with which end users are familiar, but are actually "stubs." These folders and files appear local – VPN access is not required, they are browsable when not connected, and files can be cached locally for offline use – but most files are stubs, or links to the actual files that remain in the data center. New files saved locally are automatically ingested and saved on the file share when network connectivity is re-established. By enabling file shares with DatAnywhere, employees work as if terabytes or even petabytes of data are stored on their laptops, while those files are safely stored on the organization's SMB shares.

Additional new features in the DatAnywhere 2.8 beta release include third-party proxy server configurations and TLS protocol support.

David Gibson, Varonis Vice President of Strategy and Market Development, said, "Varonis supports data wherever our customers choose to store it, and the cloud is certainly where a lot of customers intend to go. However, organizations with large on-premises file-sharing systems frequently tell us they plan to keep data on these reliable systems for years – especially when it's secured and managed with our other solutions, like Varonis DatAdvantage. In addition to control, our customers want more functionality, like file sync and mobile access, search and version control. In a nutshell, they want ECM, or enterprise content management features, without having to move their data into an ECM system. This is what the combination of Varonis solutions provides. With version control, DatAnywhere provides a bigger piece of that solution."
