CNBC "Halftime Report" trader Jon Najarian bought an alternative energy stock for his "Halftime Report" model portfolio, after spotting unusual options activity.

On Tuesday, the options trader scooped up shares of SolarCity, a manufacturer of solar energy systems that has seen its stock plunge 43 percent in 2015.

But as the stock bounces off a 52-week low, Najarian speculates this volatile name could be ready to take off.
