GETTYSBURG, Pa., Dec. 3, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Children in the foster care system have very unique needs as a result of high levels of trauma, transiency, psychotropic medication use, and higher rates of hospitalization and readmissions. They are also subject to more "touch points" – interacting with foster families, biological and kinship relations, medical consenters, child protective services, judges, health care providers, child placing agencies, and advocacy groups, for example. To meet these unique needs and better coordinate care for children in the foster care system, many provider organizations are turning to technology. From smartphone apps that help find placements for children, to e-communications for coordinating care, to remote service delivery via iPad – there are a number of new technologies that are improving care for this special population.
OPEN MINDS is hosting a web briefing on December 9th at 2:00 pm EST to take a look at the new technologies and their implications on the field. Joining OPEN MINDS will be:
- Foster Care Technologies' managing director, Paul Epp – Formed in 2014, FCT uses cutting-edge technologies to improve outcomes for children and organizations in the child welfare industry in order to create a new standard in placement stability
- Foster Skills' founder and CEO, Marquis Cabrera – Foster Skills aims to help foster youth beat the odds by helping state governments innovate their child welfare systems using rapid prototyping and human-centered design, and have become a continuous innovation platform in the child welfare space
The 90-minute session is structured to provide an overview of technology available in the child welfare space and their influence on children's services followed by examples of innovative solutions specifically for the foster care population. An interactive Q &A will conclude the event.
This web briefing is exclusive for members of the "Leadership Council For Children's Services" – a children's services sustainability collaboration of OPEN MINDS & The Child Welfare League of America with one singular focus – improving the financial sustainability of children's service organizations.
