Amazon may be working to cut out the middle man.
The e-commerce giant is in talks to lease 20 Boeing 767 jets in order to start its own delivery service, The Seattle Times reported Thursday. The newspaper said Seattle-based Amazon wants to avoid delivery delays from carriers such as UPS.
During the 2013 holiday season, Amazon customers had to deal with a number of shipping delays as cargo services were overwhelmed by the large number of packages they had to deliver.
"Amazon is pretty fed up with the third-party carriers being a bottleneck to their growth," Colin Sebastian, analyst at R.W. Baird, told the newspaper.
Steve Gaut, spokesman at UPS, told CNBC "Amazon is an important UPS customer and we are working hard to help all our customers meet their objectives for growth and customer service."
Amazon did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
