Slack's growth is blowing past the competition

In the fast-expanding enterprise application market, Slack grew faster than all of its peers this year, according to data released Monday.

The workplace messaging app grew more than 600 percent in 2015 within Okta, a single logon service for thousands of apps. Okta said it beat out other top platforms, including Microsoft's Azure cloud service.

"We are calling them the Usain Bolt of cloud apps. We think it's a trend. End users are loving the app and bringing their IT departments on board with them," said Cathy Tanimura, director of analytics and big data at Okta.

Slack — which was valued at $2.8 billion earlier this year — took the top spot among enterprise apps that continue to gain traction. The market for enterprise apps will grow to an estimated $200 billion by 2019 from $153 billion this year, according to research firm IDC.

Here are the other fastest-growing apps of the year on Okta's network:

  • Greenhouse
  • Envoy
  • Zapier
  • Windows Azure

The firm also tracked newly public cloud computing companies. Box took the top spot this year, with customer growth of more than 50 percent.
