ALRT Introduces Value Pricing for Diabetes Management

RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Medical practices, health insurers, self-insured employers, and other potential users of the ALRT diabetes management system can now choose a pricing plan linked to declines in a patient's A1C level. The plan is designed to eliminate performance risk and to provide rewards for achieving measurable health goals.

"Payers are frustrated with expensive diabetes management and other wellness programs that don't work," said Bill Smith, President of ALR Technologies that developed the ALRT remote monitoring system for diabetes. "We're so confident of the effectiveness of the ALRT system that we're willing to base our compensation on performance."

The ALRT pricing model includes a flat engagement fee and a tiered pricing structure that increases incrementally with percentage reductions of A1C, the standard measure of blood glucose control and an indicator of the effectiveness of a diabetes treatment plan. The low flat fee includes remote monitoring by ALRT's team of diabetes certified healthcare professionals who, using data extracted from the patient's own blood glucose meter, will provide alerts to healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers when established blood glucose parameters are exceeded. For those clinics seeking resources to help with Medicare's new chronic care management reimbursement, the ALRT system is fully compliant with CMS requirements.

In clinical trials, internet-based remote monitoring has been associated with significant reductions in A1C. In real-world settings, insulin-using patients with A1C levels above 8 percent experienced reductions of more than a percentage point in nine months using the ALRT system (see attached white paper).

"Many companies who offer wellness programs are basically saying 'trust us' while charging significant fees per patient per month for ambiguous results," said Sidney Chan, founder and CEO of ALR Technologies. "In stark contrast, we're offering a powerful and demonstrated tool for caregivers with compensation based on measureable reductions in A1C. That means better glycemic control for patients, better health outcomes for payers and providers, and a strong incentive for us to continually improve our product."
