SAN JOSE, Calif., March 02, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:UBNT) (Ubiquiti) strongly endorses the new rules announced today by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which provide relief from restrictions that would make it difficult and costly for internet service providers to provide wireless broadband services, particularly to users in rural and remote areas.
Ubiquiti’s networking equipment provides internet access to historically unconnected and underconnected markets via its cutting edge technology, which enables some of the longest link distances in the unlicensed 5GHz spectrum. In 2014, the FCC jeopardized the feasibility of 5GHz products by drastically reducing the out of band emissions (OOBE) that are allowed in the U-NII-3 portion of this spectrum. Ubiquiti responded to this challenge by presenting a compromise solution to the Office of Engineering and Technology of the FCC. Ubiquiti’s solution protects services in nearby spectrum from interference but revises the OOBE limits adopted by the FCC, thereby preserving service to rural and remote communities, and avoiding a substantial increase in equipment costs to networks operating in the U-NII-3 band.
The FCC adopted the “Joint Emissions Proposal” as defined in the order, which as noted by the FCC "closely resembled the Ubiquiti proposal". The Ubiquiti proposal gained the support of a broad base of unlicensed 5GHz equipment manufacturers, service providers and other industry participants and served as the basis for the Joint Emissions Proposal. The FCC’s order is available at http://transition.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2016/db0302/FCC-16-24A1.pdf
Ubiquiti applauds the FCC’s decision and hopes to work with the FCC in the future to accomplish their joint goal of expanding access to high-speed internet services throughout the United States.
