HIGH POINT, N.C., March 22, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Who: High Point University students, faculty, staff and members of the general public who reserved a ticket. Media is invited to attend both events.
What: Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder and HPU Innovator in Residence, will visit HPU.
Where/When: At 2 p.m. on March 23,Wozniak will take part in an interactive Q &A in HPU's Hayworth Fine Arts Center. Groups of students representing different majors across campus will join HPU President Nido Qubein, who will moderate, and Wozniak on stage to discuss a variety of issues in today's global marketplace. All general public tickets have been reserved.
At 3:15 p.m., Wozniak will consult with computer science and physics students on a team project to build a driverless mobile kiosk unit from a golf cart that can travel around HPU's campus, delivering campus mail, medicine and more.
Wozniak will help the students flesh out design, decompose the project into manageable parts, identify relevant technologies to explore, and offer other general advice to the student team.
Why: Steve Wozniak is the man who invented the personal computer and built Apple with Steve Jobs. The world has him to thank for the Apple I and Apple II computers that laid the foundation for future developments like the iPod, iPad and iPhones we hold in our hands today.
Wozniak, who served as HPU's 2013 Commencement speaker, is returning to campus to serve as the university's Innovator in Residence. Through an ongoing partnership, Wozniak will connect with HPU students and faculty for experiential learning, beginning with his visit to campus on March 23. Part of Wozniak's time at HPU will be spent with students majoring in computer science, physics, education, communication, entrepreneurship and more. He joins a stellar team of educators on the HPU campus in developing the next generation of leaders.
