MORRISTOWN, N.J. and PARIS, March 30, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Louis Berger, in a joint-venture led by MWH Müh Müş Ltd Şti, an affiliated company of MWH, has started conducting an overall assessment of drinking water resources and water treatment plants in Turkey as part of a 3.8 million euro (4.2 million USD) European Union (EU)-funded technical assistance project.
"There are few environmental issues in Turkey today that are as important as management of the country's potable water resources," said Jesper Damgaard, Louis Berger's senior vice president and managing director for Europe. "In partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, we look forward to playing a key role in helping Turkey identify solutions to modernize its drinking water sector."
As part of its remit, the project team will prepare a complete appraisal of the Turkish drinking water sector, including its legal and institutional structures. All drinking water treatment plants will be assessed to identify the quality of the raw and treated water and to provide a snapshot of the current operations. The team will then identify gaps between Turkish and EU drinking water standards and will propose solutions aimed at reducing and eliminating any deficiencies. Further planning and management of EU-financed water projects will be based on the conclusions of the current project.
The joint venture also will prepare five sample conceptual designs for modernizing drinking water treatment plants. The joint venture also is tasked with launching an awareness campaign on the protection and management of drinking water resources and conducting formal and on-the-job training.
"We are pleased to continue our long history of engineering consultancy in Turkey as part of the strategic growth in our global water practice," said Rick Schoenthaler, Louis Berger vice president and international water market sector lead.
Louis Berger has worked in Turkey for more than 20 years and implemented nearly 20 projects. The firm has provided a large array of services, including project and construction management, design, pre- and feasibility studies, surveys, technical assistance, training, IT support and communications.
