The glitz and glamour of the automotive industry is on display as global automakers show off their wares in China's capital for the 14th edition of the Beijing Auto Show.

The luxury SUV sector is in focus this year, as strong sales results in China last year led industry leaders to intensify production of large vehicles to satiate demand.

Also on display at the auto show are China's "Tesla killers" - electric cars designed and produced by domestic manufacturers. LeEco's LeSEE concept car is a high-profile example.

Domestic automaker Changan shows off its debut electric vehicle, the EADO Plug-in EV.

Launched in the domestic market in early 2015, the EADO EV is a product of Changan's 18 billion yuan ($2.8 billion) investment in producing new-energy vehicles over the next 10 years.

With a Chinese name that is translated as both "Leopaard" and "Leopard," this SUV made its debut at last year's auto show. It made a reappearance in 2016 outfitted in a rugged trim.

The SUV sector has taken China's auto industry by storm, clocking up annual growth of 52 percent in 2015.

Making its debut at the 2016 auto show, the Niro marks Kia's push into eco-friendly cars. The Niro is Kia's first hybrid-crossover SUV.

Riding on the huge popularity of SUVs in China, the Kia Niro is aimed at buyers looking for a fuel-efficient, family-friendly car.

One of the most outrageous designs at this year's auto show, FFZERO1 concept car is an electric vehicle that looks like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie set.

Created by California-based Faraday Future, it's a preview of what can be expected from the automotive company's upcoming billion-dollar production facility in Nevada.

This sleek supercar concept was first shown to much fanfare at the 2015 Shanghai Auto show.

Fans are now one step closer to possibly owning the K50, dubbed "China's first supercar," after the automaker unveiled the production version of the supercar at this year's Beijing show.
