CHICAGO, May 4, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Accomplished patent litigator Meredith Martin "Mimi" Addy, who specializes in appellate work before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, has moved to Chicago-based litigation boutique Tabet DiVito & Rothstein LLC, where she will be a partner.
Addy represents entrepreneurial and innovative companies in sectors such as software, technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. She brings two decades of experience in complex litigation to her new firm, including numerous bench- and jury trials in cases in federal district court, at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Patent Trial and Appeals Board, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She has served as first- or second-chair trial counsel in nearly 30 cases in federal district court, and has handled more than 40 appeals to the Federal Circuit.
"Meredith Addy is a nationally recognized and widely respected litigator who represents precisely the type of accomplished litigator clients come to Tabet DiVito & Rothstein for," noted Caesar A. Tabet, co-founder of the firm. "Mimi deepens our intellectual property practice and strengthens our highly qualified team of trial and appellate lawyers."
Addy is a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Association's board of directors, and she has been a member of the Federal Circuit's Advisory Council for more than a decade. Because of her knowledge of patent litigation and the Federal Circuit, she has also testified before Congress on the state of the Federal Circuit and patent appeals.
"Innovation and intellectual property dominate today's global value chain," according to Addy. "Business success depends not only on nurturing great ideas but protecting the ability to use them short- and long-term. Legal strategy and patent litigation expertise are integral to success."
"It's my intent to leverage Tabet's reputation as a sophisticated litigation boutique nationally, offering the firm's proven skills and experience to world-class companies and innovators," Addy says. "The economics of competition continue to tighten for law firms. And the war for talent is ratcheting ever tighter as well. Having a flexible, highly qualified team of attorneys that can present experience alongside value is vital in supporting today's clients."
Addy was formerly a partner and national co-head of the patent litigation practice at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP in Chicago, where she served on its board of directors. Before that, she managed the Chicago office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she also served on its board. She writes the blog BusinessDeNovo on issues relating to innovation, business, and patent law.
Addy earned her JD cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law. In 2015, she received her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She holds an LLM with honors from The John Marshall Law School, and earned her B.S. in electrical engineering and a B.A. in fine arts from Rice University.
