Petersen is an unsung hero to her eight foster and adopted children ranging in ages from 9 to 29. Petersen not only provides a nurturing environment for her children, but also gives them a warm home, access to education and provides for all of their daily needs.
Petersen’s love and dedication has bettered the lives of her foster children, who all came from challenging circumstances. She is also a regular speaker on behalf of Treehouse, a nonprofit organization that invests in the bright futures of youth in foster care by helping them succeed in school and in life.
Petersen was honored during a luncheon hosted by Armour as a part of their “Great Moms” campaign. Armour recognized Petersen for being a “Great Mom” in front of family and friends and partnered with Albertsons Safeway to reward Petersen with $2,500 in free groceries.
“When you hear about all the wonderful things that Karla Petersen has done as a foster and adoptive mother it’s easy to see why she’s so deserving to be recognized on Mother’s Day,” said Chuck Gitkin, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Smithfield Foods. “The Armour ‘Great Moms’ campaign is dedicated to honoring and giving back to mothers, our everyday unsung heroes. We are glad to pause and reward Karla Petersen with $2,500 in free groceries at Albertsons Safeway.”
Armour was pleased to recognize Petersen as part of its “Great Moms” campaign. The campaign celebrates “Great Moms,” they are the ones who do it all and do it all for us, without asking for any recognition. Great Moms often go without praise and Armour is helping to change that by showing its appreciation for these everyday champions.
The campaign includes monthly events through November to surprise and celebrate unexpected great moms across the country. Armour is a brand of Smithfield Foods.
“This is amazing,” said Petersen. “I’ve always known that I have a wonderful community but this is great, what Armour and everyone did today. I love my kids dearly and I can’t believe this surprise. It’s just in my heart to be a mom and working with children who need a mother. I feel blessed that I was honored today.”
With America's favorite frozen meatballs, LunchMakers portable meal kits and pepperoni products, Armour® is proud to be a trusted brand that provides convenient, delicious and affordable meal options for smart, sensible families since 1867.
