The team anticipates completing the building acquisition process over the next few months, and is making preparations to move right into the redesigning of the building's exterior and interior infrastructure. This will include the flow of the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum & Entertainment Complex for the estimated 400,000 estimated visitors and tourists annually who will also have the ability to shop at the Official Retail Gift Shop, enjoy family meals and sports at the Restaurant & Sports Bar, take in some fun with the kids at the Arcade, and enjoy an evening out with a live event performance in the Concert Lounge being filmed by our in-house Television Broadcast Studio facility producing 100 shows and events annually.
The Hip Hop Hall of Fame is seeking to partner with passionate creative designers, strategic production managers, contractors, and builders who understand the complexities of finishing major projects in the City and State of New York. This includes seamlessly working with City and State building and development agencies. "We are seeking to ensure that local workers, vendors, suppliers, and merchants benefit from the rehabilitation construction building project that will provide jobs, job training, and contribute a $350M socio-economic impact to the New York City Tri-State region," stated JT Thompson Founder and Chairman of the HHHOF.
The Hip Hop Hall of Fame is Chartered non-profit 501 (c)3 Museum and Educational Institution whose mission is to Preserve, Archive, Exhibit, Educate, and Showcase Hip Hop Music & Culture from around the world. To also conduct Research and Studies document hip-hop’s historical influence on American Pop Culture and its Socio-Economic Impact on Societies and Trends around the world.
There will also be an educational component to the program that seeks to inspire over 25,000 public school children per year who will visit the facility on field trips with museum tours, and live assembly programs that feature the Official HHHOF Mascot DJ B-Boy Scratch & Friends doing PSA’s, passing out Academic Awards, and gift bags for kids and youth in k-12. The Hip Hop Arts & Media Academy educational programs will also teach youth in computer coding, fashion, mural arts, 3D-printing, multi-media television & film production, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and college preparation.
“This is what sets the Hip Hop Hall of Fame + Museum apart from other groups and individuals, as our focus is not just on preserving and archiving Hip Hop History, but contributing to the positive growth and empowerment of our youth through education, mentoring, and job training. The Museum plans to also expand professional opportunities for Artists, Executives, Service providers, and Businesses to grow volume worldwide,” stated Chairman JT Thompson.
Hip Hop Music & Culture and its rich history are continually evolving as a living organism whose legacy does not deserve to be put in chains in a Mausoleum or Pre-War facility. Thus, the Hip Hop Hall of Fame is moving forward aggressively to keep hip hop history authentic and is exploring the use of green technology and conservation mechanisms in the development of its Museum. The goal is to build a state of the art facility with all of the available cost and energy saving technologies that are currently in the marketplace. This will include everything from doors, windows, insulation, furniture, heating, cooling, water usage, storage, staging, lighting, audio, energy conservation, energy generation, waste disposal, recycling, customer service, and exhibit designs.
Green technology will also be incorporated into the museum operations by utilizing recyclable materials, paper products, and building materials that will be included in the final design and operational plans. The Hip Hop Hall of Fame will also seek out New York City & State Agency programs that assist, provide services, and encourage companies and organizations to utilize green technology.
These elements will be included in the final RFP for Architects, Engineers, Contractors, and Exhibit Designers for the Harlem Museum project. The facility will include the Hip Hop Hall of Fame, Museum, Retail Gift Shop, Restaurant, Sports Bar, Concert Lounge, Arcade, TV Broadcast Studios, Classrooms, Community Rooms, and Offices.
Final selections will be made in the fourth quarter to begin designing and construction planning schedules on the project that will take 18-24 months to complete. All RFQ submissions by creatives, designers, and builders for review shall be submitted to The Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum by July 29,2016 at 5pm EST. Final Selections for approved organizations will be coordinated by the HHHOF Museum Development Project Manager Zubatkin Owner Representation’s Andrew Bast. The HHHOF RFP will then be issued to the qualified finalist selected on August 31, 2016. These firms will then have 60 days to turn in their RFP Proposals to the HHHOF Development team for final selections in the 4th quarter.
The HHHOF Museum Master Plan is completed with forty permanent and rotating exhibits planned. The Development team has received significant financial commitments to the project in historic Harlem. The HHHOF Museum will launch its first National Capital Campaign this summer over the next 12-18 months to complete its financing goals to complete acquisition, design, construction, and to set up an endowment fund to establish the Hip Hop Hall of Fame + Museum’s operations permanent sustainability. The HHHOF team will ensure that all of its 'Founding Partners' will be incorporated into the fabric of the Museum designs, facilities, floors, exhibits and venues.
