WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus 5.0 Introduces Analytics, Connectivity and Design Capabilities to Support Enterprises’ Increasingly Complex Integration Demands

Mountain View, CA, June 08, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Modern, connected businesses need to interact with customers, partners and employees across a range of apps running on enterprise systems, the cloud, web, mobile devices, and Internet of Things (IoT). However, this flexibility has significantly increased the integration complexity and performance challenges faced by organizations. Today, WSO2 is further addressing the integration demands of these enterprises with the introduction of WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (WSO2 ESB) 5.0.

WSO2 ESB 5.0, the newest release of WSO2’s lightweight, high-performance mediation platform:

  • Adds analytics about mediation to gain greater insights into system performance.
  • Extends integration strength with support for the Java Message Service (JMS) 2.0 and WebSockets transports plus the addition of several new software as a service (SaaS) connectors.
  • Simplifies ESB deployment with enhanced tooling for visual data mapping and message mediation debugging.

“As more enterprises drive innovation through cloud, mobile and IoT applications, they also face new challenges in conquering integration complexity while ensuring high availability and performance,” said Isabelle Mauny, WSO2 vice president of product strategy. “Our lightweight, open source WSO2 ESB addresses these demands by building on its proven ability to manage billions of transactions per day at customer sites. Now with version 5.0, WSO2 ESB brings to developers the analytics on system performance, expanded connectivity to third-party systems, and tools to facilitate deployment that will enable greater agility in supporting today’s increasingly connected businesses.”

ESB Analytics for Greater Insights

WSO2 ESB 5.0 incorporates analytics to help enterprises better understand the processing that is carried out in WSO2 ESB and make more informed decisions. ESB analytics provide dashboards with drill-down capabilities, which allow customers to instantly understand the behavior of mediation flows and trace transactions as they move through the system. Customers can leverage the published data as well as custom-published data to create their own dashboards.

Mediation Statistics – WSO2 ESB 5.0 provides dashboards for viewing and monitoring different measures of system performance, such as mediation statistics on the most used services, success rates, or failure rates. These stats are available for all artifact types, including mediators, sequences, proxy services and APIs. Using this information, developers can gain insights into mediation flows, including response times and the number of requests and responses. Additionally a composite view enables users to compare the performance of different services.

Mediation Tracing – WSO2 ESB 5.0 adds mediation tracing to provide more detail into messages passed in mediation flows and verify conformance with integration use cases, helping to ensure the quality of the implementation. Developers can now trace the message payload at different points within the message flow and identify performance bottlenecks. Additionally, users can trace and examine statistics, such as processing time, at a granular-level or compare different mediators in order to detect errors and anomalies and take corrective action faster.

Expanded WSO2 ESB Support for Transports and Connectors

Version 5.0 of WSO2 ESB further expands the ability of enterprises to connect a diverse range systems and applications. The newest release supports nearly 20 of the industry’s most widely adopted transports with the addition of JMS 2.0 and WebSockets. Additionally, WSO2 ESB works with a rapidly growing number of connectors for third-party systems.

JMS 2.0 – WSO2 ESB 5.0 supports the Java Message Service JMS 2.0 transport, which improves the scalability of Java applications and features an API for sending and receiving messages, reducing how much code developers need to write. It also simplifies applications for developers by allowing a Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) application server to create and manage JMS objects. At the same time, enterprises that already use IBM MQ Advanced Message Security (IBM MQ AMS) for their transport layer can now integrate WSO2 ESB 5.0 via JMS 2.0 in order to augment their layer with mediation, transformation and routing services.

WebSockets Transport – WSO2 ESB previously added the ability to use protocols, such as MQTT, that are widely used for IoT and mobile apps. Now, with the addition of WebSockets support in version 5.0, WSO2 ESB extends support for IoT and mobile applications to include near-real-time communications.

WSO2 ESB Connectors – Since the last release of WSO2 ESB, WSO2 has expanded the availability of connectors in its WSO2 Store by 50%, bringing the total to 150-plus connectors. The connectors are pre-integrated with WSO2 Developer Studio for ESB and available at no cost, so developers can simply download them to gain instant connectivity to a host of popular applications, covering a range of verticals—such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), finance, human resources (HR), sales and marketing.

Among the ESB connectors most popular with WSO2 customers are Salesforce, Atlassian JIRA, Twitter, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Facebook, Google Gmail, Magento, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Twilio, Apache Kafka, Salesforce Bulk, and SugarCRM. Recently added connectors include Microsoft Power BI, Jenkins, Atlassian Confluence, GeoNames, Companies House, Postcodes.io, Postcode Lookup, Zuora, Microsoft SharePoint, and ServiceNow."

Visual Data Mapping and Debugging

With version 5.0, WSO2 incorporates new visual data mapping and mediation debugging functionality from WSO2 Developer Studio to facilitate deployment.

Visual Data Mapping – WSO2 ESB 5.0 introduces an expanded version of WSO2 Developer Studio for ESB featuring a data mapping tool that visually maps input data into output data, making it easier for developers to convert and transform data from one format to another, as well as to save time when mapping between the different data formats used by different systems. The data mapping tool supports JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), Extensible Markup language (XML), and comma-separated values (CSV) formats.

Mediation Debugging – Version 5.0 of WSO2 ESB extends the existing graphical mediation flow designer in WSO2 Developer Studio for ESB to allow developers to swiftly debug mediation flows, verify if they are operating as intended, and proactively identify errors more efficiently.

WSO2 ESB Builds on WSO2 Carbon Platform

WSO2 ESB is built on the same modular, fully componentized OSGi-compliant code base as the award-winning WSO2 Carbon enterprise middleware platform. Like all WSO2 middleware products, it is inherently cloud-enabled and uses proven core framework components that provide a consistent set of enterprise-class management, security, clustering, logging, statistics, tracing, and other capabilities. Additionally, it offers a graphical management console, which is integrated with other WSO2 middleware products, for configuration, management and monitoring.

Availability, Licensing and Support

WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus 5.0 will be generally available by July 15, 2016, and the beta is available today for users that want to begin evaluating the product’s functionality. WSO2 ESB 5.0 is delivered as a software download that can run directly on servers, on top of a private platform as a service (PaaS), or on top of infrastructure as a service (IaaS), such as Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2), Linux Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM), and VMware ESX. It is also provided as a Docker image to run in containers. Additionally, customers can choose to have WSO2 host the software through WSO2 Managed Cloud hosted services. As a fully open source solution released under the Apache License 2.0, WSO2 ESB does not carry any licensing fees.

WSO2 ESB is backed by a world-class technical team with in-depth knowledge of the middleware. In addition to production support, WSO2 service and support options include development support and special QuickStartSM consulting programs.
