CareSource Only New Plan Selected to Serve Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Plan Members in Indiana

DAYTON, Ohio, June 16, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CareSource, one of the nation's largest Managed Medicaid plans, was one of four plans selected by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration to begin contract negotiations for the state's Medicaid managed care and Medicaid alternative expansion programs.

CareSource was the only new plan selected in addition to three incumbent plans. Recognized for a commitment to serving at-risk populations, beginning Jan. 1, 2017, CareSource will coordinate care for recipients of state supported programs that provide health services to recipients, through Hoosier Healthwise and the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). Hoosier Healthwise is available to pregnant women and children, and HIP covers adults 19-64 whose incomes are less than 138% of the federal poverty level, and do not meet certain eligibility requirements for other health coverage programs.
The Medicaid managed care contract in Indiana will generate more than 200 jobs between Indiana and the CareSource headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. The 100 Hoosier jobs will include growth positions at the CareSource Indiana office and additional positions to provide enhanced call center services. The contract will also result in business for Indiana-based minority-owned, woman-owned, and veteran-owned businesses that will contract with CareSource.

"This is a momentous occasion for CareSource," said Steve Smitherman, Executive Director of CareSource's Indiana operations. "By expanding our coverage in Indiana from Marketplace and Medicare Advantage populations to Hoosier Healthwise and Healthy Indiana Plan recipients, we will be able to offer more deserving Hoosiers quality health care coverage."

CareSource currently serves more than 1.5 million members in four states. This includes 27,000 Hoosiers enrolled in CareSource Marketplace and Medicare Advantage health plans in Indiana. Last year CareSource opened a new office in the BMO building in downtown Indianapolis, with plans for future expansion in the space.
