TOKYO, June 21, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UBIC, Inc. (Nasdaq:UBIC) (TSE:2158) (“UBIC”), a leading provider of international litigation support and big-data analysis services, Rakuwakai Healthcare System (“RHS”), and Focus Systems Corporation (TSE:4662) (“FSC”) announced today that they will begin joint research on the application of artificial intelligence (“AI”) to healthcare-related activities, including decision-making and evaluation in the medical field.
UBIC, RHS and FSC will conduct various empirical studies to verify practical uses of AI. In this research, RHS will provide data and knowledge concerning hospital management, UBIC will be responsible for analyzing data using its KIBIT AI engine and providing solutions regarding the application of AI, and FSC will undertake the development of a data analysis system, to support the verification process. The three partners aim to seize a wider range of opportunities for AI technology and hope to implement the achievements from the joint research so that AI can be effectively utilized at healthcare institutions.
Amid the increasing interest in AI, expectations and opportunities for its application are expanding from treatment and diagnosis to the improvement of the environment for recuperating patients and the safety of medical practice. Furthermore, institutions are paying attention to the use of AI in management decisions, personnel management, and workflow management.
KIBIT is an AI engine developed by UBIC. KIBIT is a word coined by combining “kibi,” a Japanese word meaning “subtlety,” and “bit,” the smallest unit of digital information, in order to indicate an AI capable of understanding the subtle elements of human behavior and personality.
