The Democratic National Committee issued a statement Monday afternoon, offering a "deep and sincere apology to Senator Sanders, his supporters, and the entire Democratic Party for the inexcusable remarks made over email."
The statement also noted that the comments — made in the recently released emails hacked from the party — "do not reflect the values of the DNC or our steadfast commitment to neutrality during the nominating process."
The DNC, and particularly its chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, have been engulfed in controversy since the trove of emails were made public on WikiLeaks and revealed apparent attempts by the DNC to undermine Sanders.
