Sarah Jessica Parker is best known as an actress, but she's long been a businesswoman as well — and it should come as no surprise her products revolve around fashion.

The "Sex and the City" icon, now starring in HBO's "Divorce," just launched a line of little black dresses, called SJP LBD. She also has a bag collection and shoe collection.

While Parker's fashion business is expanding, she told CNBC's "Power Lunch" she is very prudent and thoughtful about how fast her company grows.

"Growth is interesting, it's necessary, but we're really thoughtful about the ways that are meaningful and actually connect to the origins of the brand," she said in an interview from Vanity Fair's third annual New Establishment Summit in San Francisco.

To that end, all of her little black dresses are made in the United States. Her bags are made in the U.S., but the leather goods come from Italy.

Parker's shoe line, which she said has grown enormously, is produced overseas.

"Our shoe collection is made in Italy because there is a long and storied history of shoes being made in Tuscany and what that means in terms of quality," she said.

When it comes to promoting her products, the social-media-savvy star has used Instagram. Last week, she took to the site to announce that her first dress had arrived at Bloomingdale's.

While she had a "brief courtship" with Twitter, she told CNBC she isn't "tough enough" to use the platform — which some have criticized for nasty and harassing tweets sent by users.

"I like different types of colors in my conversation," said Parker.
