David Ross Joins SecureAuth as VP of Research

IRVINE, Calif., May 23, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SecureAuth Corp., the leader in adaptive access control, today announced the appointment of David Ross as vice president of research. Ross brings over 20 years of experience in computer security, with expertise ranging from red team operations to incident response and intrusion detection to enterprise software development. In his new role, Ross will continue to drive innovation in preventing the misuse of stolen credentials, bringing to the market secure capabilities around adaptive authentication, machine learning, passwordless and identity-based threat detection.

Most recently, Ross served as a software architect at FireEye with an emphasis on research and development; he has held a myriad of strategic positions within FireEye and Mandiant. Ross was the progenitor of the OpenIOC Framework and his early work at Mandiant revolutionized endpoint compromise detection methods. Ross also worked with the Department of State for Diplomatic Security as a senior information systems engineer. Early in his career, Ross served in the U.S. Navy for nine years; during his last three years at the Fleet Information Warfare Center, Ross was instrumental in the development of the Navy’s first cyber red team.

“My new position allows me to apply my years of experience in endpoint threat detection to push the envelope of fraud and anomaly detection within the identity and access management space,” said Ross. “It’s shocking to me that attackers are walking past the reported $73.7 billion worldwide spending on security and still causing havoc for enterprises of all sizes and consumers. I joined SecureAuth because the company is in a unique position to detect and prevent intrusions long before the attacker gains access to the endpoint. My career has always been about service, finding evil and solving crime; I look forward to developing new techniques for identity security that protects companies and people.”

Ross moves into the VP of research position as SecureAuth expands its portfolio of adaptive access control, multi-factor authentication, and single sign-on products, adding Identity-as-a-Service product Cloud Access, passwordless capabilities, and detection-orientated abilities to its award-winning adaptive authentication suite.

“David’s real-world experience and understanding of the security problems that organizations face makes him the perfect fit to drive modern and pain-free protection and detection solutions for our customers,” said Jeff Kukowski, CEO at SecureAuth. “Despite increased spending year over year on security, data breaches are at an all-time high, and these aren’t necessarily sophisticated attacks, either. In fact, 81 percent of hacking-related breaches were attackers walking through the front door with stolen or weak credentials – and that doesn’t speak to the undiscovered and under-reported breaches. David understands the critical need for not only endpoint, network security and other security investments that organizations make, but also identity and access management as a complete security package. David is the industry expert to continue the momentum of delivering adaptive solutions that enables organizations to have strong security with great user experience.”

Ross’s appointment marks the fourth in a series of strategic additions to SecureAuth’s executive leadership team, which also includes the appointment of Jeff Kukowski as CEO in February, Danielle Jackson as CISO in March and Robert Block as SVP of identity strategy in April.
