PM Abe says will work to regain public's trust after Tokyo election defeat

TOKYO, July 3 (Reuters) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Monday he took the results of a Tokyo assembly election "seriously" and would work to regain the public's trust.

Abe's Liberal Democratic Party suffered an historic defeat in the election on Sunday, signalling trouble ahead for the premier, who has suffered from slumping support because of a favouritism scandal.
