(Adds Fed statement on early release)
WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - U.S. industrial production rose slightly less than expected in July, the U.S. Federal Reserve said on Thursday.
Industrial output rose 0.2 percent after an unrevised 0.4 percent increase in June.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast industrial production increasing 0.3 percent in July.
The data was released earlier in the day than expected. A Fed spokesman said the central bank inadvertently published the data on its website before its scheduled release, and attributed the early publication to "human error."
