LIMA, Aug 24 (Reuters) - A consortium led by China Three Gorges Corp has signed a deal to buy a 456 megawatt hydroelectric plant in Peru from Brazilian builder Odebrecht for an undisclosed sum, Odebrecht said late on Thursday.
Peru's justice ministry and regulatory bodies in China must approve the sale before it can be finalized, Odebrecht added.
The announcement comes as scandal-plagued Odebrecht tries to pay down its debt as it faces more than $2.6 billion in fines for corruption and bans on bidding on government contracts in Peru and Argentina.
The Chaglla hydroelectric station, on the Huallaga River in northern Peru, required $1.5 billion in investments to build, Odebrecht told Reuters earlier this month.
The China Three Gorges consortium also includes China's Hubei Energy Group Co Ltd and CNIC Corp Ltd, as well Caymanian company Ace Investment Fund II LP. (Reporting By Marco Aquino, Writing By Mitra Taj, Editing by Richard Pullin)
