There was a new richest person in the world this week: Amancio Ortega.
On Tuesday, the Spanish fashion tycoon briefly knocked Bill Gates from the top spot. Gates rebounded, according to Forbes. Wednesday, Ortega's $85 billion fortune surpassed Gates' $84.9 billion once again. As of Thursday, Gates had regained his position, but it remains precarious: This was the fourth time Ortega has become No. 1.
In this country, at least, Ortega doesn't have the same name recognition as Gates or Jeff Bezos, who became the world's richest man for a short time on July 27. But the business he co-founded is more familiar: Inditex is the parent company to millennial-favorite fast-fashion brand Zara.
