China raises yuan midpoint for 9th straight day to near 16-month high

SHANGHAI, Sept 7 (Reuters) - China's central bank raised its official yuan midpoint for the ninth straight session on Thursday to 6.5269 per dollar, the strongest since May 18, 2016.

The higher fix reflects the yuan's firmer performance from a day earlier.

But Thursday's midpoint - 42 pips or 0.06 percent firmer than the previous fix of 6.5311 per dollar - was slightly weaker than market expectations, market participants said. (Reporting by Winni Zhou and David Stanway; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)
