“Greenberg Gross’ many trial victories led to the unexpected benefit of a growing appellate practice that initially served as a complement to the firm’s trial court practice, but has grown into a robust practice of its own,” said Co-Founder and Managing Partner Alan A. Greenberg. “Becky’s arrival enables us to continue to expand that practice area and solidifies the firm as one of the country’s top firms for appellate work.”
Following her tenure at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. James joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP as a partner, where she served as co-chair of the firm’s national appellate practice group. Prior to joining Greenberg Gross, she formed her own firm, focusing on appellate matters and white-collar defense. “I thoroughly enjoyed forming and managing my own boutique firm, but I did miss having greater resources at my disposal, particularly for my large complex cases,” Ms. James said. “I am also extremely excited about working with Greenberg Gross’ many talented lawyers and utilizing the firm’s new mock courtroom in Los Angeles, which will be fully equipped with space for a traditional three-judge appellate panel.”
The firm, which was launched in 2013, recently announced that it has leased the 30th floor of the Figueroa at Wilshire building in downtown Los Angeles, where it will open its new headquarters after extensive renovations. The Los Angeles headquarters will occupy approximately 23,000 square feet, and, like the firm’s Orange County office, will include a state-of-the-art courtroom.
“Our mock courtrooms enable our lawyers, who are some of the best and brightest in the country, to prepare by simulating the proceedings that occur in trial and appellate courtrooms,” said Co-Founder Wayne R. Gross. “I am delighted that Becky, who was responsible for training prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, will be able to now use our state-of-the-art facilities in a similar manner.”
Ms. James’ many professional successes include securing a significant appellate victory in a published Ninth Circuit opinion, United States v. Pocklington, 792 F.3d 1036 (9th Cir. 2015), which vacated a judgment against her client Peter Pocklington, former owner of the Edmonton Oilers hockey team. She also represents Haymon Sports, a management firm whose clients include world-class fighters (including boxing champion Floyd Mayweather), to handle a Ninth Circuit appeal defending a summary judgment granted in their favor against an antitrust claim brought by Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
Ms. James graduated from Stanford Law School, and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Pamela Ann Rymer on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
