Blackhawk Network Holdings posts 3Q loss

PLEASANTON, Calif. (AP) _ Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc. (HAWK) on Wednesday reported a loss of $7.8 million in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Pleasanton, California-based company said it had a loss of 14 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and stock option expense, were 18 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 9 cents per share.

The gift and prepaid card company posted revenue of $419.3 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $208.3 million, which did not meet Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $215.3 million.

Blackhawk Network Holdings expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.56 to $1.70 per share, with revenue in the range of $940 million to $981 million.

Blackhawk Network Holdings shares have risen 17 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $44.20, a climb of 38 percent in the last 12 months.
