White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders briefed reporters on Thursday afternoon, as Senate Republicans raced to finalize a tax reform bill that leaders hope the chamber can pass by the end of the week.

The briefing also came amid reports that the White House is planning to ask Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to step down, and appoint the current CIA director, Mike Pompeo, to take over the State Department.

Asked about the reports, President Donald Trump said earlier in the day that "Rex is here," because Tillerson was, in fact, at the White House. But he ignored questions about Tillerson's tenure in the administration.
