Comedian Jay Leno is now the proud owner of an oceanfront mansion in Rhode Island.

Although he's generally careful with his money, the former host of NBC's "The Tonight Show" splurged on a $13.5 million home in Newport earlier this week, which was listed by Lila Delman Real Estate. Although details of the sale are under wraps, the firm is excited for Leno to take over the property.

"We are happy to welcome Jay Leno to Newport," says Melanie Delman, president of Lila Delman Real Estate. "It's wonderful to see more prominent people joining our community."

Leno is known to frequent Newport and has been spotted at the Audrain Automobile Museum there, according to abcnews.com.

The crescent-shaped estate, known as Seafair, borders the ocean and comes with a rich history.

Built in the 1930s, the estate was originally known as Terre Mare. It was designed by James Mackenzie Jr. for Verner Zevola Reed Jr., who went on to become the vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1981, President Ronald Reagan appointed Reed as the U.S. ambassador to Morocco.

A gated entrance and winding drive leads up to the estate, which sits on a 9-acre lot and features 15,851 square feet of living space.

The home has 12 bedrooms, 12 full bathrooms and three half-baths, according to the listing. It's also packed with luxe amenities, including a carriage house, walled garden and tennis court.
