TABLE-German consumer prices rise 1.6 pct y/y in December

BERLIN, Dec 29 (Reuters) - German consumer prices, harmonized to compare with other European countries, rose by 1.6 percent on the year and increased by 0.8 percent on the month in December, preliminary data from the Federal Statistics Office showed on Friday. Analysts in a Reuters poll had forecast a yearly rise of 1.4 percent and a monthly increase of 0.6 percent. For 2017 as a whole, the EU-harmonized inflation rate rose to 1.7 percent from 0.4 percent in the previous year, it said. The Office gave the following breakdown of unharmonized year-on-year data for December:
