White House to nominate Wilson, Phillips to FTC as soon as this week

WASHINGTON, Jan 25 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump will nominate Republicans Noah Phillips and Christine Wilson to be commissioners on the Federal Trade Commission as soon as this week, a White House official said on Thursday.

The White House had previously said that the president would nominate Republican antitrust lawyer Joe Simons to head the agency and Democrat Rohit Chopra, a veteran of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, to be a commissioner.

The agency works with the Justice Department to enforce antitrust law and investigates allegations of deceptive behavior by companies. The agency has five commissioners, only three of which can be from the same party. (Reporting by Diane Bartz Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
