Contango reports 4Q loss

HOUSTON (AP) _ Contango Oil & Gas Co. (MCF) on Friday reported a loss of $5.6 million in its fourth quarter.

The Houston-based company said it had a loss of 23 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 18 cents per share.

The oil and gas company posted revenue of $20 million in the period, beating Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $19.4 million.

For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $17.6 million, or 71 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $78.5 million.

The company's shares closed at $3.46. A year ago, they were trading at $6.67.
